Disney is buying Marvel

I just read on Marketwatch.com that the Disney Corporation is acquiring the Marvel corporation in an estimated $4 billion dollar takeover. They’re getting the company along with the rights to over 5000+ characters. Which means DisneyWorld has the potential to get a whole lot sweeter. With that in mind, however, the question arises what will happen to Disney World’s competitor Universal Studios ISLANDS of ADVENTURE? This theme park has an entire fifth of it’s mass devoted to Marvel Comics featuring: the Incredible Hulk Roller Coaster, The Marvel X-Men Gravitron, The Spiderman Ride, and Dr. Doom’s Fearfall. How long have those characters been licensed to Universal? Will Disney be unleashing its newly acquired Matt Murdock in the court room to rob Universal Blind? Stay Tuned, Faithful Readers.

  1. I Immediately wondered the same thing! I would hate in particular for the spiderman ride to cease to exixt because it really is the only ride that cannot be renamed and licensed differently with new props. BTW……is that a web pack in spidermans pants or is he just happy to see you?

  2. This was my first question too. Obviously Disney has thought about this, and perhaps Universal is paying enough for the Marvel license that it would make sense for Disney to continue to let them use it.
