Quitting Smoking — Day 1

I started the Chantix pills today.  I’m supposed to set my quit day for 7 days.  So effective Sept.11th, 2007, I’m supposed to be completely smoke-free.  I take an increasing dosage of .5 MG to 2 MG over the course of the treatment.  So far the only side effect I’ve exhibited are nasty raucous farts which were actually there before I started taking the pills so I can’t comment on whether it’s the drugs fault or not, but much like my Coke Rewards saga, I will chronicle my attempt to quit smoking on this blog.  I’ve been a smoker for over 10 years now, and it’s time to quit.  Last year, I almost choked to death in the shower when my lungs filled up with steam.  I couldn’t breathe, I literally had to scoop water out of the toilet to open my windpipe.  It was quite nasty.

So far I think I can feel a slight revulsion by cigarettes and I don’t seem to need them as often, but I’m pretty sure that’s all mental.  We shall see, even if the pills don’t work perhaps they can become enough of a psychological crutch to set me on my way.

Wish me luck, I’ll keep you posted.
